We find that Montessori is a great way of teaching and learning as well as overlaps with our current curriculum. I look forward to learning more.

I’m realizing that some of my confusion is due to the differences between the 3-6 age group and beginning elementary age group. Can you explain some of the differences in these two environments? How are they different? How are they the same?
–I SO appreciate the list of the first 10 works for the 3-6 group! Do you have another resource similar to this for the first 10 works for the elementary class? Especially for a student new to Montessori who didn’t attend the preschool age environment.

I’d love more ideas and instruction on getting started with children who are not yet normalized! I realize that this might look differently depending on if it’s a 3-6 environment or an elementary one. I’d love ideas for both! Note: I do understand what normalization is and that the way towards it is to do the montessori works. What I’d like to hear is specific examples of what we might find new kids doing and how to inspire them to do an activity. A child who is not yet normalized won’t answer questions as to what they’re interested in, and may turn up their noses at anything offered. How do we keep these kids engaged?

~~Side note. Did I understand that you are working to a follow-up program to this one? If you’d like some beta testers to provide detailed feedback, I’d love to be part of that group! I have in my brain that maybe this program is specifically directed towards the 3-6 age group and the next one might be for elementary? I could be wrong but I think I heard something along those lines.

-Instilling order and control of error, aids to develop self-reliance with dependence.
-Grouping according to perhaps age, perhaps skills or sometimes capabilities, aids adoption crucial skills.
-The Montessori approach aids EVERYONE with extension of acquired skills as special gifts.
-Provision of appropriate ‘ideally natural’ materials will aid creative learning and therefore acquiring of unique skills, and the nature of such resources can be concrete or perhaps more abstract.
-Hands-on and interactive learning experiences, thus practical and sensorial are more nutritious to the acquirement of normalization.
-Using interests to drive learning and provide freedom to explore is crucial to develop a working pace to which the learner has been normalized.
-Well adapted learners will be able to function optimally in isolation, as well as in social environments.
-The Montessori method is learner-centred, not focussed on the teacher.
-The Guide plays a key role, however minimalized guide-dependency.
-Learner observations enables better environment preparation.
The Montessori way provides a firm foundation to enable better learning, of which each experience requires the inclusion of unique factors.

So as I’ve mentioned I mostly work with young adults… who aren’t always as keen to approach work with love, and some that aren’t intrinsically motivated, and some who prefer to work alone rather than contribute in a group… quite a mish-mash of different personalities… wonderful as a challenge for a guide or facilitator.

I found this session quite useful for the following aspects mentioned:
1. spotting the uniqueness of an individual,
2. Acting as purist telling my students they should get the Harvard Method for referencing correct, try to inspire them to paying attention to the finer details of such academic requirements, and practise my friendliness with constructive feedback on assignments and submissions,
3. Prepping a learning environment that is conducive to learning, whilst minimalizing guide dependent learning.

I am from India.

I want to know whether I choose Cambridge curriculum, Remote learning. School (homeschool) or Montessori curriculum. If I have to homeschool my child, do I have to register somewhere or how my child is getting certificates of her education. M confused. Or we can go with 2 curriculums. Please help!

I’m a Montessori mom of two children aged 11 and 14 and I am also a 3-6 Guide and H.O.D. for our 4 Pre-Primary classes at Newberry House Montessori. Previously I had my own small Montessori pre-school for 8 years before moving to Cape Town. I’m joining the workshop to keep my knowledge fresh and up-to-date 🙂 Playing catch-up at the moment with the re-plays so that I can receive my certificate.

I know Maria Montessori worked with kids with disabilities, and one of the things I wonder is concerning normalization when I myself find some of these executive function tasks so difficult. My oldest son is also high functioning autistic and has a lot of trouble with executive function as well. For me, maybe beginning the Montessori approach will help create some motivation for me and therefore “hack” my dopamine (as they say in the ED community), but I don’t think that will quite work for him. I’ll have to give that some more thought and research.

This lesson on normalization was very informative and helpful for me! Thank you for what you’re doing! I have already bought into the Framework and one of my specific needs is that I’m just beginning the Montessori approach with my bigger kids. There isn’t much information to be found out there for this situation!

Yes, it works along with any Montessori Curriculum. The Montessori Way Foundations Framework gives you the what and how, but most importantly, it gives you the why. It is important to know why things are done the way that they are done to better solidify the foundations of The Montessori Philosophy in your mind and in your environment.

Please help should I go with the Cambridge curriculum with Montessori at home environment? I am confused. Will they go parallel or not?

” The Montessori method begins with the end in mind” – This was my take away. This statement simply put things into perspective. Think of where you want the children to end up in the future and work your way on how to get there. Montessori doesn’t have to be complicated.
